SEED High School: Special Needs Trusts

Simplifying the Process of Creating a Special Needs Trust for a Person with a Disability

Creating a Special Needs Trust can be overwhelming. Stephen W. Dale will explain how families can approach the process step by step, connecting the trust with a broader plan for their loved one’s future. Topics will include identifying needs and goals, choosing a trustee, building a support team, coordinating public benefits and services, and establishing oversight to promote accountability over time.

Stephen W. Dale, Esq., LL.M., is an attorney and disability rights advocate whose work focuses on special needs trusts, disability planning, public benefits, and long-term support systems for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is the founder of the Dale Law Firm and serves as Trustee of the Golden State Pooled Trust. Steve’s perspective is shaped by lifelong involvement in California’s disability community, including years working in institutional settings before becoming an attorney. His work focuses on helping families and professionals create adaptive, accountable planning systems that support dignity, autonomy, safety, and meaningful community life for persons with disabilities.
