SEED’s Mission
SEED’s Mission is to enrich the education of children with special and diverse learning needs, and maximize resources and supports to these children and their families in Lafayette, California.
About SEED
The Special Education Enrichment Development Foundation (SEED) was developed by a group of parents in 2006, after recognizing the need for a foundation to augment special education services for children and families in Lafayette, CA.
We the collaborative efforts of its diverse parent population - stemming from Early Intervention, Lafayette’s four elementary schools, Stanley Middle School and members of the Lafayette Community - SEED quickly grew, raising money through grant writing, annual fundraising, community partnerships, and individual donations.
SEED provides a wide range of support and resources to families of children with special and diverse learning needs, as well as training programs for educators who work with these children. The programs we fund include recess facilitation, after school social play groups, educational seminars, support groups, and socials for parents and teacher training. SEED is grateful to all the individuals, corporations, foundations and trusts who make charitable contributions that make these important programs possible.

Our experiences and outlooks are as varied as our children. Please contact us and we will get you in touch with a board member who might be able to answer your specific questions. Or check out one of our many free parents socials like our monthly Coffee Talks or Happy Hours.

It depends. At in-person events, where space is limited, priority will be for members of the Lafayette School District. (We have students who may be in our district, but live in other towns.) But we also have a lot of casual drop-in events (like our Coffee Chats & Happy Hours) that are great for building community and not feeling so alone. You can always just email us and ask!

SEED generally serves children and families who are in the Lafayette School District (EI - 8th grade), whereas SEED HS serves the same population, but in the Acalanes Union School District (9th - 12th grade and young adults). We offer slightly different programming for our social groups and parent eds, although occasionally there is some overlap. We also manage two different email groups, but you can feel free to join both, especially if you have a middle school child. The parent and caregiver population in SEED might be new to the IEP, 504 or diagnosis process, whereas in SEED HS, they might be looking at standardized tests, graduation requirements, and life beyond graduation. No matter the age of your child, all are welcome.
